Highlights for Hiatts!

Time is passing, sometimes too fast and sometimes not fast enough. But we always have things to do!

We bought our first big purchases for the business!! It was very exciting! This little guy:

sweet, right?

and these two, too!

Cool! We are building a business!

Look! Billy rips out trees!

Hahah it's like a tree massacre. He's also been working his little tail off at all kinds of other jobs, and I went and worked with him too (I already thought he was a champ, but seriously!? It was hard work. Good job, Billy)

He also did some work on our yard!

The tulips are so pretty--we only have a few, but EVERYONE on our block has bumloads so it is so cool! We are so happy everything is turning green and springy--funny to look back on those days of death when it was too hard to walk outside becuase it was so cold and think that we actually lived through them. Worth it!

And now we are just finishing off school-- my LAST WEEK OF FORMAL EDUCATION EVER. I am done in FIVE DAYS. Which is bittersweet--school is a) the thing I've put more time and effort into than literally anything else in my whole existence b) one of my greatest strengths...hopefully that strength transfers over well and c) is probably trivial in comparison to the adventures ahead! woohoo!

Also, I am rapidly approaching a day I never thought would come but also always knew had to eventually. I will soon leave the precious Grounds Office. What will I do without the Grounds Office? It has taught me every good thing I know about being a good employee, friend and problem-solver.

Nevertheless, bring on the adventures! All is well and we are looking forward to all or many of you coming here soon!

PLANET and plan it!

All is well with the Hiatts these days!

Last week Billy went to PLANET, which is a nationwide gathering of all the Landscape programs of all the colleges. So they go, they network with landscaping companies, they go to some workshops and then they compete in landscape competitions. (who knew, right? Landscapers.)

So Billy traveled with 30 other landscape peeps to Alabama and spent the week just landscaping away.

His first competition was truck and trailer (he had to drive said items through an obstacle course)

He said he messed up on all the parts everyone else did good and did good on the parts no one else could get haha.

His second competitions was pavers! His specialty!
They had 2 hours to make a little paver plot with a retaining wall and Billy was partnered with another kid from the program.

So of course in my wife heart I just expected him to dominate and win the whole thing but I didn't know if that would really happen until it really did!!

The reigning national champ of hardscape installation!!! Billy won the whole dang thing!

And then he finally came home! He had a good time and even had some big companies trying to hire him.

Also we made this pizza.

And it happened to be pi day. (3.14159 cosin secant tangent sin dtothexdxdyoverdtothexdy goooooo pizza!)

And yesterday we blew off all of our responsibilities and ran up this mountain:

It was crazy and so fun and lots of good running. And so warm! (so i guess where the second part of the title of this post comes in is now we are just planning on having all kinds of warm adventures now that it's not negative degrees!) (and there are tulips and rose bushes growing in our front yard!)

Day FOURTEEN!

Billy, of course!

I LOVE Billy, and I sure do love being married to him!

Here is a poem I wrote for and about him. You can click on it to make it bigger so you can actually read it if you want.

It is fun learning how to be married, and I wouldn't love it any other way but with Billy. Ebillyence!

Day THIRTEEN!

I can't begin to tell you how precious my time at the Grounds Office has been.

Today I realized two things:
1. I only have two months left there. What-a!? I have been spending 4-8 hours of every weekday of the last 3 years of my life in the secret corner of campus. How can it be coming to a close?

2. I'm going to regret never having taken my own picture of the outside of the Grounds Office.

LOVE!

Day TWELVE!

I LOVE electronic games.

From the oldest

to the most obscure

to the longest addiction and absolute domination of the whole game even levels no one else knew about

to word games like this which I absolutely love (thank you, Char)

to the most recent, which Billy and I can not stop playing.

It's a nimble fingers passion, what can I say?

Day ELEVEN!

I LOVE keyboard shortcuts!

Three years in an office has taught me to be very efficient on my keyboard. Because I love them so much, here is a list of a few of my favorites.

Ctrl + c copy
ctrl + x cut
Ctrl + v paste
Ctrl + b bold
Ctrl + i italics
Ctrl + u underline
Ctrl + p print
Ctrl + z  undo
Ctrl + e center
Ctrl + l left justify
Ctrl + r right justify
Shift + Tab Go backwards one
Shift + arrow highlight text
Shift + [ font size increase
Shift + ]  font size decrease
Shift + F3 Switch between lowercase, title case, uppercase
You may already know these, but that also means you know how much you love them!

Also, as a side note, I wish I could do a whole day on how much I LOVE excel! I'm not as good as maybe LaDon or other accountants, but I'm pretty good. I love excel.

Day TEN!

I LOVE my calling!

I'm the RS secretary. Every week I send out an email, prepare a conducting sheet and make a bulletin for everyone to have during RS (hymn lyrics conveniently on the back in case you don't have a hymn book becuase we never do).

It's right up my alley! And I get to know lots of people and work with a champ presidency and just LOVE!
